Accredited by the International Gap Year Association, meeting rigorous standards for safety, quality, and professional gap year experiences.
The Warriors Academy was established in 2004 by Rudi and Rene Viljoen and is situated in the heart of the Magoebaskloof mountains in the Limpopo Province of South Africa.
Rudi and Rene noticed a gap in the market for young people who weren’t quite ready for college or university or didn’t know what their next steps were after school. The gap year program was created to fill this need and provide students with a way to find direction and their passions through travel, adventure, and experiential learning.
Over the last two decades, the team has focused more on equipping young students with the skills needed to overcome any challenges life throws at them. This has seen the inclusion of several different personal development workshops throughout the year aimed at building emotional intelligence, accountability, and self-belief.
Adventure for us is not only something we are passionate about but is the perfect vehicle to get students out of their comfort zones to challenge them and their thought systems to create new positive thought patterns.
Through this program, we provide students with more than just adventure activities. We provide students with lifelong skills that they can use throughout their lives.
The Warriors Compass
Our gap year program is based on what we refer to as the Warriors Compass. These are Warrior Compass principles that guide our programs:
- WIN-WIN – the only way you win is if everyone wins.
- Attitude – this is the only thing you have control over.
- Respect – understanding and respecting others, their opinions, beliefs and cultures.
- Responsibility – your ability to respond will determine your experience.
- Integrity – aligning what you think, say and do.
- Opportunity – act on it rather than make use of it.
- Radiate – how you use your energy and its effect on your life.
- Symbiosis – the value you bring to all relationships.
These principles and lessons are built into our activities and aim to help students develop their sense of self!
